The Focus Method: Collaborative Reading Synthesis is designed to help a group of students collaborate to synthesize a reading, such as an article or a section of the textbook, and write a summary to gain deep understanding of the subject. The students are asked to read individually first, and then to construct a theory, by brainstorming and deciding on the 3 main points, synthesizing and connecting those 3 points, and summarizing them in the context of the subject. The Collaborative Reading Synthesis worksheet can be a stand-alone learning tool, or a "thought organizer" used to create a final product such as a digital graphic organizer, infographic, blog post, audio, video etc.
